Please help support our Christmas Chimp Appeal

chimp appeal

Chimps are one of our closest relatives sharing over 98% of their DNA with humans.  Sadly our closest relatives face an uncertain future. Chimps are endangered with fewer than 235,000 estimated to be left in the wild.

Luckily the future is much brighter for our Chimps here at Taronga. They play a vital role in the survival of their species as ambassadors for Chimps in the wild.

The Chimp’s exhibit, after 30 years of housing five Chimp families, now – understandably - needs a complete renovation.  Taronga is building a new state-of-the-art home for our Chimps.  This fantastic project will cost over $1.8 million which is why we need your support.

Please help support us in reaching our target for this vital project.  Whatever you can give, however small, will help us move closer to achieving our goal and help provide the best home possible for our Chimps.

Asian Elephant Conservation Breeding Program

Please support our Asian Elephant Conservation Breeding Program.

In the last 75 years the wild population of the Asian Elephant has dramatically fallen by 70% to as low as 35,000. Now classified as endangered, the Asian Elephant faces an uncertain future with loss of habitat and poaching major threats to its survival.

Taronga has joined forces with zoos across Australia in a conservation breeding program for Asian Elephants. The birth of Luk Chai, the first Asian Elephant born in Australia, marks a great success for Taronga’s breeding program. We need to continue this important program to raise awareness and help ensure the species’ survival.

Please help support us in this long-term project and move closer to our goal of helping safeguard these intelligent and incredible animals. Whatever you can give, however small, will help.

Do something amazing today

You can do something amazing today and help save a species.  The Tassie Devil needs your help right now as it is facing extinction in the wild.

I'm Nick De Vos and one of my responsibilities as a senior keeper is managing the Tassie Devils at Taronga Zoo.  Tassie Devils are being wiped out in the wild at an alarming rate due to a horrific cancer.  Taronga and Taronga Western Plains Zoos are working with other zoos across Australia to breed an insurance population of devils to release back into the wild when it's safe to do so.
